Jan. 17: Minnesota State Mankato to Unveil 'Sittin' with Stomper' Bronze Statue in Centennial Student Union

Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato will unveil the University’s newest landmark Wednesday, Jan. 17 when it unveils a life-size bronze statue of the campus mascot, Stomper, sitting on an 8-foot bench located on the main level of Centennial Student Union near the Campus Hub.

The bronze sculpture, titled “Sittin’ with Stomper,” and an accompanying bronze plaque will be revealed during a brief ceremony at noon on Wednesday in Centennial Student Union.

The ceremony, free and open to the public, will conclude at 12:20 p.m. with free cake served in the Wambdi Wapaha Lounge. University students in attendance will have the opportunity to win a limited number of free commemorative “Sittin’ with Stomper” bobbleheads.

Jan. 17 ceremony schedule (times are approximate):

  • 11:55 a.m. – Maverick Machine band plays
  • 12 p.m. – Ceremony begins
  • 12:05 p.m. – President Edward Inch remarks
  • 12:10 p.m. – Student Government President Sierra Roiger remarks
  • 12:13 p.m. – Unveiling of “Sittin’ with Stomper” statue and closing remarks
  • 12:16 p.m. – Photo opportunity: Edward Inch and Sierra Roiger
  • 12:20 p.m. – Cake in the Wambdi Wapaha Lounge
