Guadalupe Quintero Honored on Retirement from Minnesota State Mankato

Mankato, Minn. – Guadalupe Quintero, director of community partnerships in Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, recently was honored by U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz after announcing her retirement from Minnesota State Mankato.

Quintero has served at Minnesota State Mankato for the past 23 years and is retiring effective Friday, May 3 (retirement receptions have been held). In addition to her current position, Quintero has also served as director of the University’s Center for Latino/a Affairs.

In an April 5 letter, Klobuchar wrote to Quintero: “Congratulations on reaching this incredible milestone of retirement! Your dedication and hard work over the years have truly paid off.”

In a certificate of recognition dated April 12, Walz wrote: “This certificate is presented to Guadalupe ‘Lupe’ Quintero in recognition of 23 years of excellent service as Director of Community Partnerships at Minnesota State University, Mankato and as a fearless advocate for women, youth and the Latine community in Minnesota.”

Walz also issued a ceremonial state proclamation designating Friday, May 3 as “Guadalupe Quintero Day” in Minnesota.

The Minnesota House of Representatives issued a House resolution, dated April 8, honoring Quintero on her retirement. An excerpt from the resolution cited Quintero for being “the founder and cofounder of multiple bilingual and bicultural educational programs for Latina and Latino youth and women empowerment in southern Minnesota, such as the Southern Minnesota Latino College Fair, El Pueblo Avanza Conference, the Southern Minnesota Mother and Daughter Conference, the Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Institute, Latino Academic Engineering Day, the Woman to Woman Latina Conference, and the Multicultural Network.”

The Minnesota Council on Latino Affairs also recognized Quintero with a recognition certificate. The inscription stated: “For 23 years of distinguished leadership at Minnesota State University, Mankato, and her relentless support of the Latine youth, nationally and internationally, to expand opportunities to access higher education in Minnesota and abroad.
