April 1: ‘An Immigrant by Choice: What is My Role as an Artist and Educator?’ is Topic of Minnesota State Mankato’s Faculty Research Lecture

Mankato, Minn. – The 51st annual Douglas R. Moore Faculty Research Lecture at Minnesota State University, Mankato will feature a presentation by Professor Mika Laidlaw on Monday, April 1 at 7 p.m. that discusses her role as an immigrant artist and educator.
The presentation is free and open to the public and will be delivered in Ostrander Auditorium, located in Minnesota State Mankato’s Centennial Student Union. Free parking is available after 6:30 p.m. in University Gold Lots.

Laidlaw, a professor in the Department of Creative Arts, which is part of Minnesota State Mankato’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences, provided the following preview of her lecture, titled “An Immigrant by Choice: What is My Role as an Artist and Educator?”
“The presentation will focus on my role as an immigrant artist and educator living in the current complex world while sharing stories of places I lived, people I met, and how they inspired me to create ceramic sculptures.”

The annual Douglas R. Moore Lecture celebrates excellence in research at Minnesota State Mankato. This will be the 51st such lecture, and the 38th named after Moore, who established the event.
Moore was president of then-Mankato State University from 1974 to 1978. His tenure saw the transformation of Mankato State College into a university, as well as the consolidation of the lower and upper campuses and construction of a new administration building.
Minnesota State Mankato, a comprehensive university with 15,251 students, is part of the Minnesota State system, which includes 26 colleges and seven universities.
