MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Department of Music & Entertainment Industries presents a recital of ambient electronic music and video at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11 in Performing Arts 203A of the Earley Center for Performing Arts, 320 Maywood Avenue.
John Thompson and Michael James Olson will present a meditative, mesmerizing journey of ambient electronic music and captivating video. The recital will feature hypnotic sounds of electric guitars, blended with traditional and experimental techniques to create a truly unique and unforgettable musical experience.
Thompson heads the music technology program at Georgia Southern University through which he has structured a series of courses that range from introductory music technology classes to graduate courses in computer music. His compositions and research have been presented at numerous international computer music conferences. His creative work explores cross-modal techniques for combining multiple media in generative and interactive contexts.
Olson, faculty chair of Minnesota State Mankato’s Department of Music & Entertainment, is a musical creative whose work is ever evolving to new places with new collaborators. His work has received press in publications such as the Dallas Morning News, Fanfare, MPR, and Music Street Journal. His music and production can be heard on more than 40 albums, licensed to dozens of cable and network TV programs, and on concert stages throughout the world.
