April 22: University Jazz Combo and Contemporary Vocal Groups in Concert

MANKATO, Minn. - Minnesota State University, Mankato's Jazz Combo and Contemporary Vocal Groups will perform Saturday, April 22 at 2 p.m. in the Elias J. Halling Recital Hall of the Earley Center for Performing Arts, 320 Maywood Ave.

Douglas Snapp directs the Jazz Combo. The Maverick Fusion and Vocal Precision a cappella vocal groups are co-directed by Snapp and Stephanie Thorpe.

The concert opens with the jazz combo performing a mix of classic to contemporary works including jazz legend John Coltrane's haunting "Naima" and current jazz star Nicholas Payton's "Jazz is a Four Letter Word."  The Maverick Fusion vocal group will be performing Toto's "Africa," Ed Sheeran's "I See Fire," and MKTO's "Classic."  The concert will close with the Maverick Vocal Precision group performing "Natural Disaster" (Pentatonix), "Electric Love" (Børns), and "Misbehavin'" (Pentatonix). The Maverick Vocal Precision group recently performed at the "Acapocalypse" a cappella festival in Milwaukee.

Minnesota State Mankato students are admitted free with a valid MavCARD. General admission is $9 and $7 for students (K-12) and children.
