April 29: Physics Show at Minnesota State Mankato
Monday, April 29, 2024
6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
Trafton Science Center C, Room 121
Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Department of Physics and Astronomy will host a physics show on Monday, April 29 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the University’s Trafton Science Center C, Room 121.
The show is free and open to the public, and free parking is available in campus parking lots 5 and 21.
Show demonstrations will be delivered to the audience in a magic show-type fashion that is especially intended for elementary and secondary school students. The demonstrations, performed by Minnesota State Mankato faculty, staff and students, aim to educate the public on what can be done with ordinary items.
But unlike magic shows performed by magicians, where tricks are kept secret, physics “magic” can be explained using simple physics principles. The tricks can be performed at home with some practice.
According to a provided event preview, the purpose of the presentation is to show the audience that “physics is an experimental science, is exciting and can be a lot of fun.”
