MANKATO, Minn. – Singer/songwriter Annie Mack and her band will perform Saturday, Feb. 5 at Hooligans Neighborhood Pub, 1400 East Madison Ave., Mankato. The show will begin at 7 p.m. with singer/songwriter Becky Kapell and her band.

The concert event is sponsored by KMSU-The Maverick and Minnesota State University, Mankato's Department of Music & Entertainment Industries Performance Series.

Mack has built a reputation for writing meaningful, relatable and inspirational songs. Live, she delivers her songs with power, soul and conviction. A dynamic vocalist and charismatic performer, she takes the audience on a journey from velvet lined melodic depths to exciting, gritty, full-bodied church hollers.

A regional artist with national recognition, Mack has performed at many top festivals and venues, including the John Coltrane Jazz Festival (North Carolina), the Lancaster Roots and Blues Festival (Pennsylvania), the Thunder Bay Music Festival, the Minnesota State Fair, the Twin Cities Jazz Festival, the Bayfront Blues Festival in Duluth, Buddy Guys (Chicago) and the Blues City Deli (St. Louis).

Becky Kapell’s band features local twang vets Paul Bergen and Erik Koskinen. The Minneapolis Star & Tribune’s Chris Riemenschneider writes: “Becky Kapell’s latest CD, ‘In It To Win It,’ features her smoky but tender voice recalling Jeannie C. Riley while her songwriting has a Lucinda Williams-like balance of down-and-out grit and hopeful beauty. Standout cuts include the bittersweet, slow-waltzing title track and the cool-rambling ‘Capable Man.’”

Concert admission is $12 in advance; $15 the day of the show. Tickets are available at Hooligans. Those who wish to purchase tickets online should go to www.mnsu.edu/music and select the ‘News and Events’ link. For more information, call the Performance Series office, (507) 389-5549.
