Wednesday Panel Discussion Highlights Nov. 16-20 Celebration of International Education Week
Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Center for Education Abroad and Away and Kearney Center for International Student Services are holding a virtual panel discussion on international education Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 12 p.m. that is open to the public.

Among the topics to be discussed in Wednesday’s virtual panel discussion: identity abroad, (reserves) culture shock, cultural experience, general fun experience questions, impact of student abroad on one’s career and more. The panel combines the personal experiences of current Minnesota State Mankato students and staff and professional insights from people in the field of international education.
The panel discussion is part of a Nov. 16-20 celebration of International Education Week, an annual tradition founded by the U.S. Department of State & Department of Education to celebrate the benefits of cultural education and exchange.

The Kearney Center for International Student Services will hold daily virtual events for students throughout the week, and the University Dining Center’s menu during the week will include a variety of dishes from around the world each day.
Minnesota State Mankato students are invited to attend the following daily events:
Monday, Nov. 16, 9-10 a.m.: “Advocate for Your Success”
Academic Success Advisor Margo Druschel from University Advising will provide tips on how students can gain the most out of working with academic advisors. Students will also learn practical ways to reach and effectively communicate with professors.
Tuesday, Nov. 17, 9-10 a.m.: “MavTOURS: Belize and Tanzania”
International freshmen who are studying in their home countries this semester show participants a “day in the life” through personal vlogs. Participants will learn more about their parts of the world and meet them live on Zoom.
Wednesday, Nov. 18, 9-10 a.m.: “Let Me Tell You about It: Ghana, Ethiopia and Ivory Coast”
Freshmen abroad will present on items that are of special personal and cultural significance to them, sharing insights into family and traditions.
Wednesday, Nov. 18, 3-5 p.m.: “Law Enforcement: What International Students Should Know”
City of Mankato police officers Mohamed Mohamed and Stephanie Wilkins will discuss laws, safety and how best to interact with police.
Thursday, Nov. 19, 2-3 p.m.: “Self-Love and Coping during These Extraordinary Times”
Students are invited to share how they have been doing this semester and know they are not alone. Dr. Lindsay Murn, Counseling Center, will guide participants through self-reflection and strategies to live and succeed to the fullest.
Friday, Nov. 20, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.: “Getting Involved on Campus”
Alex Trewatha, graduate student in Community Engagement, believes that involvement on campus sets the framework for being a successful college student. He will share his experiences and knowledge about organizations to help students in exploring opportunities.
Minnesota State Mankato, a comprehensive university with 14,604 students, is part of the Minnesota State system, which includes 30 colleges and seven universities.
