Minnesota State Mankato Men’s, Women’s Club Handball Teams Sweep 2025 National Team Championships

MSU also Wins Combined National Title

Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s men’s and women’s handball teams each won national team championships, and the two teams also won the combined national championship at the 2025 United States Handball Association’s national collegiate handball tournament, held Feb. 19-23 in Portland, Oregon.

The Maverick men’s team scored 2,312 points in winning its fourth consecutive national title, followed by Texas A&M (2,096) and Missouri State (2,040).

The Maverick women’s team scored 2,252 to win its second consecutive national title, topping second-place Lake Forest College (2,193) and third-place Angelo State (2,136).

The top six players in each gender score toward the combined title. The final combined point total was 4,564 for Minnesota State Mankato, 4,148 for second-place Missouri State and 4,140 for third-place Angelo State.

Individual notes:

  • Clodagh Munroe from the women’s team repeated as open champion. Munroe and Hannah Grace won the women’s open doubles division. Both earned All-American honors.
  • From the men’s team, Ray Ure defeated teammate John Bike in the open division championship. Sophomore Bryan Trejo advanced to the semifinals. All three earned All-American honors, as did Luis Mendez, who teamed with Ure to finish as runner-up in the open doubles division.
  • Nick Kerins was the runner-up in the men’s A2 singles division. Kerins and Joseph Lallier won the A doubles division.
  • Katie Heller and Kayle Rollenhagen finished runner-up in the women’s C doubles division.
  • Also honored at the tournament banquet were four Mavericks who received $2,500 Mardak scholarships from the United States Handball Association. Mardak scholarships are awarded to collegiate handball players who teach handball to youth and/or new college handball players.
  • David Ceaglske, Ray Ure, Bryan Trejo and Lucas Wells were awarded Mardak scholarships for their involvement in MSU’s Handball 2 University program, where youth from MyPlace and the YWCA come on campus to play handball and do academic activities with a goal of seeing themselves as future college students.
