Nov. 2: University Faculty Offering Concussion Workshop

Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato faculty will hold a free concussion workshop titled “Getting Ahead on Concussions” Saturday, Nov. 2 at Mankato Area Public Schools’ East High School, 2600 Hoffman Road, from 1-3 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
This workshop, ideal for educators and coaches but also free and open to the general public, provides a fun, hands-on way to understand the signs and effects of sports-related concussions. The event will include various activity stations for participants as they explore the human brain and learn traumatic brain injury protocols.
The workshop will be presented by Minnesota State Mankato faculty members Adam Steiner and Sheen Chiou, along with speech language pathologist Alyssa Rickels and certified athletic trainer Troy Hoehn. Steiner is a neuroscientist and assistant professor in the University’s Department of Psychology. Chiou is a communication sciences and disorders specialist and professor in the Department of Speech, Hearing and Rehabilitation Services.

In addition to the presenters, psychology and communications science and disorders graduate and undergraduate students from the University will also be assisting with the workshop and demonstrations.
