Nov. 4-14: 'Hay Fever' is next Theatre Production

MANKATO – The season continues next week at Minnesota State University, Mankato's Department of Theatre and Dance with the opening of Nöel Coward’s "Hay Fever."

A classic comedy about four eccentric members of the Bliss family, "Hay Fever" tells the story of their outlandish behavior when they each invite a guest to spend a weekend at the family country house. As the guests arrives, it becomes clear that it is not them who will be the problem, but the family themselves. This play is a shrewd, farcical look at a dysfunctional family oblivious to their ill-mannered behavior.

"Hay Fever" was originally on the 2020-2021 season schedule, but due to COVID and scheduling adjustments, it was bumped to this season. Director Matthew Caron remarked, "This show is a hilarious combination of both slap-stick farce and high-brow wit. It's been a delight to see the actors engage their creativity in serving the story in compelling and inventive ways. In a world of lockdowns, it's been fun to sneak away to the Bliss home for a little reprieve."

"Hay Fever" runs Nov. 4-6 and Nov. 11-13 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 13 & 14 at 2 p.m. in the Ted Paul Theatre at the Earley Center for Performing Arts, Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Tickets are $17 regular, $15 for seniors ages 65 and older, children under 16 and groups of 15 or more; and $12 for Minnesota State Mankato students.
