MANKATO – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Department of Performing Arts will continue the Mainstage season with Ken Ludwig’s “Lend Me A Soprano.” The production is made possible by a generous sponsorship from Mayo Clinic Health System Mankato.
It’s 1934, and the clever and combustible Lucille Wiley, manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company, is ready to welcome world-class soprano Elena Firenzi for her one-night-only starring role in “Carmen.” Alas, Elena arrives late, her impassioned husband Pasquale has a fit of jealousy, and it remains to be seen whether Mrs. Wiley’s mousy but determined assistant Jo can save the day.
Director Matthew Caron says audiences can expect standard farce flair, including slamming doors, mistaken identities, and hilarity throughout. This is also the Mainstage debut of three first-year MFA candidates: Joshua Barclay, Meg Breithaupt and Chris Martens.
“Lend Me A Soprano” runs Nov. 7-9 and 14-16 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 16 & 17 at 2 p.m. in the Ted Paul Theatre at the Earley Center for Performing Arts, Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Tickets are $17 regular, $15 for seniors ages 65 and older, children under 16 and groups of 15 or more; and $5 for MSU students. The Box Office is open 4-6 p.m. weekdays in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center, or buy single tickets online at MSUTheatre.com. The Box Office line is 507-389-6661.
