MANKATO, Minn. – The Minnesota State Mankato Performance Series features the Cactus Blossoms Saturday, Oct. 15 at Hooligans Neighborhood Pub, 1400 East Madison Avenue (Madison East Center), Mankato. Dusty Heart opens the concert at 7 p.m.
The concert is sponsored by KMSU The Maverick and the Performance Series with assistance from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
Take your parents' country and folk, add some fresh-indie flavor, and you've got the Cactus Blossoms. Brothers Jack Torrey and Page Burkum are the singing/songwriting duo known as the Cactus Blossoms. For over 10 years now, the band has been crafting a nostalgic, yet modern take on country and folk, led by the consistent vocal harmonies from both brothers. The duo released "One Day," their third studio album, in 2022, and the LP's 11 tracks add even more steps in experimentation between their past influence and the current state of music.
"It feels good to be called for anywhere right now, after canceling tour after tour over the last couple years," shared Burkum. "It's just exciting to be back at it. I don't know how these things always work out, but we have a new record out now, so it seems like a good time to go back with something new."
Dusty Heart features Barbara Jean and Molly Carlson Dean, two songwriters recognized in their own right for their poetic lyrics and distinct vocal styles that create a powerful and haunting sound. The duo has crafted a sound that bridges the diverse musical worlds of roots, indie, pop and folk.
Concert admission is $15 in advance, $20 day of show. Tickets are available at Hooligans (507-625-9904) or online at link.mnsu.edu/musictickets. Tickets can also be purchased through the Performance Series office, 507-389-5549.
