Oct. 17: Psychologist and Author Keith Payne to Discuss 'Why Economic Inequality is More Than Economics'

Mankato, Minn. – Author Keith Payne, a psychology professor at the University of North Carolina, will address “Why Economic Inequality Is More Than Economics” in a free public presentation Wednesday, Oct. 16 from 3-4:30 p.m. in Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Ostrander Auditorium, located in Centennial Student Union.

A question and answer session with Payne, also free to the public, will be held from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16 in the University’s Memorial Library (southwest corner of the first floor).

Payne’s book, “The Broken Ladder: How Inequality Affects the Way We Think, Live, and Die,” has been selected by the Department of Psychology and Library and Learning as the University’s common read for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Minnesota State Mankato invites the area community to join University students, faculty and staff in reading the book, which is available in a variety of formats and at various locations, including local libraries and the Maverick Shop in Centennial Student Union.

Payne’s research has been featured in The Atlantic, The New York Times and on NPR. He has written for Scientific American and Psychology Today.
