Oct. 7-17: Department of Theatre and Dance Presents 'Good for Otto'

MANKATO, Minn. – The season continues next week at Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Theatre and Dance with the opening of David Rabe’s “Good for Otto.”

In a rural mental health center, a psychiatrist, his colleague, and six patients teeter between breakdown and survival, dedication and humanity against the adversary of mental illness to hold onto the need to fight and live. Inspired by a real clinic, “Good for Otto” is a modern play about a system that itself has gone mad.

This production explores mental health and illness subject matter including suicide, PTSD and abuse, but director Vladimir Rovinsky notes the areas of light in the story through imagination and song. “This production, although heavy at times, explores themes of hope through the characters relationships,” says Rovinsky.

“Good for Otto” runs Oct. 7-9 and 13-16 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 9, 10, 16, and 17 at 2 p.m. in the Ted Paul Theatre at the Earley Center for Performing Arts, Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Tickets are $17 regular, $15 for seniors ages 65 and older, children under 16 and groups of 15 or more; and $12 for Minnesota State Mankato students.
