Patrick Dean Receives 2018 Distinguished Alumni Award
Dean one of four 2018 alumni award winners recognized at April 20 ceremony.
Mankato, Minn. – Patrick Dean (pictured) of Rochester, Minn., recently received the 2018 Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award from Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Dean, who retired in 2017 after a long career as a registered nurse, nursing faculty member and coordinator of the University of Minnesota Rochester’s nursing program, was one of four 2018 alumni award winners. He was honored at an April 20 ceremony hosted by the Minnesota State Mankato Office of Alumni Relations.
Alumni Achievement Awards go to graduates who have achieved high rank or honor in their professions and have had a major impact on their communities.
Dean, a 1978 Minnesota State Mankato graduate with a bachelor’s degree in nursing, worked as a registered nurse after graduating and later earned a master’s degree in nursing from Winona State. He joined the University of Minnesota Rochester in 2006 as a clinical assistant professor.
Dean earned a doctorate in educational leadership in 2011 from St. Mary’s University in Minneapolis. He became coordinator of the University of Minnesota Rochester’s nursing program before retiring in May 2017. During his career, Dean received more than 40 honors, awards and research grants.
In May 2018, he will complete a two-year term as president of the International Association for Human Caring. Among his many honors, Dean was appointed by Queen Elizabeth II to the US Priory of St John at the rank of officer. He is now teaching reading core to elementary school students.
