Two South Central Region SBDC Clients Receive Launch Minnesota Innovation Grants
Mankato, Minn. – Two clients of the South Central Minnesota Small Business Development Center, located at Minnesota State University, Mankato, were recently selected to receive Launch Minnesota innovation grants.
Launch Minnesota Innovation Grants were awarded to the following clients of the Small Business Development Center:
- Gomigo, a woman-owned software company in Waseca County ($28,500 grant for developing a scheduling app for friends who want to go out together and for marketing entertainment venues for consumers).
- Vortrex, a manufacturing company in Waseca County ($28,000 grant for designing and manufacturing eco-friendly electric track utility terrain vehicles).
According to a Minnesota Department of Economic and Employment Development (DEED) news release, Launch Minnesota Innovation Grants are targeted to the most promising innovative scalable technology businesses in Minnesota. Their purpose is to reduce the risk for Minnesota technology startups and entrepreneurs, who are solving problems and growing state’s innovation ecosystem.

In February 2000, Minnesota State Mankato was named the regional educational hub for Launch Minnesota’s Southwest Minnesota region. Within the University, Launch Minnesota Southwest is supported by the University’s Strategic Partnerships Center (including the Center for Workforce Professional Education and the SBDC), the College of Business Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, the Department of Automotive and Manufacturing Engineering Technology (part of the College of Science, Engineering and Technology) and B507, a student-run, faculty-mentored consulting enterprise.
According to the Minnesota Department of Economic and Employment Development (DEED), Launch Minnesota is an initiative started to strengthen Minnesota’s entrepreneurs and make it easier for innovators to take advantage of the wealth of resources across the state.
Minnesota State Mankato, a comprehensive university with 14,604 students, is part of the Minnesota State system, which includes 30 colleges and seven universities.
