Outside Memorial Library

Mankato, Minn. – The Minnesota State University, Mankato campus will be holding a voter registration event as part of National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

Students and the general public will have the opportunity to become registered voters from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday at a registration table outside of Memorial Library on the University’s campus mall. Tables with voter registration cards will be set up across the Minnesota State Mankato campus and at various community locations.

In addition, volunteers in purple “Lead the Vote” shirts will canvas the Mankato precincts with the lowest voter registration and areas surrounding campus between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. The volunteers will leave information cards with a link to the Minnesota Secretary of State online voter registration website and a list of what is needed to complete voter registration. The card will also have room to write down voter polling locations.

According to its website, National Voter Registration Day is a nonpartisan civic holiday that was first observed in 2012 in an effort to encourage Americans to register to vote.

Sponsors of the Sept. 17 voter registration event include Minnesota State Mankato’s Women’s Center, New Student and Family Programs, Community Engagement and Library Services, and in collaboration with the Lead the Vote: Nonprofit Voter Election Engagement organization and the League of Women Voters – St. Peter/Mankato.

Constitution Day Observance

Constitution Day is an American federal observance that recognizes the adoption of the United States Constitution and those who have become U.S. citizens. It is traditionally observed on Sept. 17, the day the U.S. Constitutional Convention signed the Constitution in 1787 in Philadelphia.

Minnesota State Mankato will celebrate Constitution Day through Sept. 17 with book displays in Memorial Library highlighting resources that explain the constitution, its history and information about the signers. As part of the celebration, Memorial Library is providing free pocket copies of the U.S. Constitution while supplies last.
