Sept. 28: 3rd Annual Rockstar Energy Collegiate Esports Invitational at Minnesota State Mankato

Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s varsity esports team is hosting its third annual Rockstar Energy Collegiate Esports Invitational tournament, featuring 18 teams from eight states, on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 10 a.m. to approximately 8 p.m. in the University’s Centennial Student Union Ballroom.

The event is free and open to the public, and doors open at 9:30 a.m. Free event parking is available in visitor’s lot 4.

Additional Event Highlights:

  • Free Rockstar Energy drinks
  • Exclusive giveaways, including a $500 scholarship courtesy of GPC, gaming gear and more
  • The Esports Foundry Free Play Lounge will be open for all attendees to enjoy free casual gaming and fun.

The event will be emceed by Jeff Lang, also known as “Stunt Monkey” from Hot 96.7 radio in Mankato. In addition to the competition, the event features vendor booths, local sponsors and a variety of family-friendly esports-related activities. Food is available for purchase in Centennial Student Union.

Competitors in the Rockstar Energy Collegiate Esports Invitational will compete in Call of Duty Modern Warfare III (CoD); Rocket League and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Smash).

Eighteen teams from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota, Michigan, Colorado and Nebraska are registered for the event. This is the third consecutive year that Minnesota State Mankato has hosted the event. Last year’s winners included Illinois State University (Call of Duty), University of Minnesota (Rocket League) and St. Cloud State University (Super Smash Bros. Ultimate).
