The American Red Cross declared a national blood emergency on Monday, Aug. 5, according to an Aug. 7 news release, “noting a shortfall of 19,000 blood donations in the last month causing the blood supply to plummet by 25 percent since July 1.”

The American Red Cross said donors of all blood types are urgently needed. Those who donate Sept. 1-15 will receive a Red Cross Raglan shirt.
