Nov. 18: Slam Poet Neil Hilborn to Perform during 'Maverick Open Mic Night'

Mankato, Minn. –Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Student Events Team announced that American slam poet Neil Hilborn will perform on campus during “Maverick Open Mic night” on Thursday, Nov. 18 at 8 p.m. in the Centennial Student Union’s Ostrander Auditorium.

The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 7:45 p.m. Performers include Hilborn, Minnesota State Mankato students, members of the Southern Minnesota Poets Society and other poets from southern Minnesota.

Hilborn is best known for his viral YouTube video, “OCD,” with 15.7 million views. OCD is the sixth-most watched poetry video on YouTube. Hilborn is a College National Poetry Slam champion. He graduated in 2011 with honors from Macalester College with a degree in creative writing. Hilborn’s second book, “Our Numbered Days,” features some of Hilborn’s most well-known poetry, including “Joey” and “OCD.” The book is an Amazon bestseller with more than 50,000 copies in print.

Student Events Team is a student-led organization that produces fun, interactive, educational events where students make lifelong memories and celebrate their Maverick pride.

Minnesota State Mankato, a comprehensive university with 14,546 students, is part of the Minnesota State system, which includes 30 colleges and seven universities.
