Amber Paulsen, Exploring Teaching Careers LCC
Welcome… I’m your LCC Amber Paulsen!
I am so excited to meet you in the fall. I will be a resource for you as you navigate through your first year of college here at Minnesota State University, Mankato! Being involved with the Exploring Teaching Careers Learning Community will help you academically as well as socially, so utilize me and your peers as much as you can!
Major: Life Science Teaching (5th-12th grade)
How/what made you decide this major? I have always wanted to be a teacher, although it took me a little while to figure out what kind of teacher I wanted to be. As I grew up and spent more time outside, I began to find my passion for science. My passion has been growing ever since, and I thought what better way to combine two things I love: teaching and science!
Year in School: I'll be a sophomore in the fall!
Hometown: Chaska, MN (about an hour north of Mankato)
Favorite Food: Sloppy Joes
Advice for LC Students: Go to as many events as possible (especially welcome week)! That's how I met a bunch of friends right away and it made the transition a lot easier.
Favorite thing about MSU: Both of my parents went to MSU, so I grew up coming to campus. I've always had a strong connection with the University and I'm excited to finally be here as a student.
Campus/LC Involvement: I was a part of the Exploring Teaching Careers Learning Community my first year! I love going to sporting events (football and hockey are my favorites). I am hoping to expand and join some clubs next year, I really want to join Habitat for Humanity. I also got to experience dorm living, which was a lot of fun!
Favorite thing to do in Mankato: My favorite thing to do in Mankato is go to Maverick hockey games. I have been going since I was a baby and this was my first year experiencing them in the student section (super fun!!)
Favorite things to do outside of school/coursework: I love to scrapbook, make cards, crochet, and any other various smaller crafts! I also love to be outdoors. Like going on hikes, walks, swimming, camping, or paddle boarding!
Anything else we should know about you? I am excited for the opportunity to get to know all of you and to help you have the best first year possible!
