Final Exam Schedules
A new finals week approach has been implemented for the Fall 2024 semester to support students and simplify room scheduling on campus. Details and resources surrounding this implementation are provided below.
Final Exam Schedule
Finals will occur during the first regularly assigned day/time for every class during finals week.
- Not all finals periods will be the same length—it depends on your class meeting schedule. Example: A class that meets MWF 9:00-9:50 will have a finals period from 9:00-9:50 on the Monday of finals week.
- Current MNSU Final Exam policy indicates that “students are not required to take more than two exams on any day” and can appeal to instructors for rescheduling.
Course Exceptions/Implications
General exceptions each semester are for CIS 121, MATH 112, MATH 098, and BIOL 100 which can have common finals on Wednesday or Thursday evening of finals week.
Faculty were able to request an additional or alternate exam period for this Fall 2024 semester to address some specific teaching and exam strategies or to address the two-exam limit on the intended finals day. Any faculty members who were approved for an additional or alternate time slot also agreed to the following:
- To communicate the approved additional/changed finals period to students via email and annotation in the class schedule or syllabus posted in D2L no later than September 25, 2024.
- To specify which content will be covered on which day of finals at the point in the semester when faculty provide more details about what the final exam or activity will cover.
Rescheduling Exams
Per the MNSU Final Exam policy, students are not required to take more than two exams on any day. A student with three (3) or more exams in one day as scheduled by the University may appeal to any of the instructors to reschedule one of the exams. Should the instructor(s) be unwilling to reschedule, the appropriate academic dean(s) shall decide a remedy.
Students with reasonable conflicts (e.g., scheduled athletic events, conferences) are responsible for making appropriate arrangements with the instructor as soon as their schedule is determined.
Students are encouraged to look ahead to their finals week to request any changes as early as possible. In some cases, faculty who have many students with these requests may be able to work on a collective solution.
Accessibility Resources
Accessibility Resources works with faculty and students to provide an accessible testing environment for students with disabilities. Accessibility Resources has a dedicated testing center for students with Alternative Testing accommodations including time extensions, testing in a reduced distraction space, or a private room. Students requesting alternative testing accommodations must have supporting documentation on file in Accessibility Resources and be registered with Accessibility Resources.
Academic accommodations for students are determined on an individual case-by-case basis. Students with documented disabilities desiring an accommodation plan of support should schedule an appointment with Accessibility Resources.
Appeals or Concerns
Students should contact accessibility resources with any concerns about accommodations. If they are not able to resolve questions about their final exam schedule for a particular course, they should contact the Dean of the college in which the course is being offered.
