J-1 Status
To maintain lawful status, a J-1 student must:
- Attend the mandatory immigration check-in and orientation at the Kearney International Center
- Attend the university you are authorized to attend
- Be in good academic standing and make normal progress towards an academic program
- Update your DS-2019 according to federal regulations if you change your academic program or level
- Undergraduate students must enroll in a minimum of 12 credits each fall and spring semester while graduate students must enroll in a minimum of 6 credits each fall and spring semester
- Limit on-campus employment to 20 hours/week during the academic year and 40 hours/week during breaks and summer
- Must have proper employment authorization at all times
- Maintain a current passport. It must be valid for at least 6 months into the future when you enter the U.S.
- Maintain required health insurance coverage
- Update your current and permanent address information in E-services within 10 days of moving
