Tenure and Promotion

The decision to promote is based on the faculty member’s cumulative work record since the faculty member’s last promotion or since the date of hire. To earn promotion, the faculty member must demonstrate a cumulative record of professional performance and high achievement appropriate to the relevant rank and consistent with the goals and objectives of the University.

To be awarded tenure, a faculty member must demonstrate a record of positive performance and professionally competent achievement over the duration of the probationary period that is consistent with the goals and objectives of the university. The faculty member’s record will be evaluated - completion of the probationary period alone does not mean the standards of tenure have been met.

Watermark Faculty Success

The Watermark Workflow in the Faculty Success module allows promotion and tenure candidates to upload materials directly and track progress. The goal is to provide faculty with a more cohesive experience in all promotion and evaluation processes.

The Workflow was developed in collaboration with the Faculty Association and stakeholders across campus to customize a process for Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Workflow is now available for candidates applying for tenure and/or promotion to begin building their portfolios for submission. To log in, please go to the Watermark Login site.
