All Applicants
To be considered for graduate programs at Minnesota State Mankato, applicants must hold the equivalent of a U.S. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
Please note that international students are generally not admitted as non-degree-seeking students.
- Submit the required financial documentation after admission is offered.
- Preparation for your I-20: Log into your MavMAIL, gather financial documents, request your I-20, and practice for your visa interview..
- Note that a graduate assistantship will likely not cover the entire cost of attending Minnesota State University
- Credentials must be sent directly from the issuing institution and will not be returned to the applicant.
Applicants Educated in the United States
- Request an official transcript be sent directly from each institution. Documents are not returned to you.
Applicants Educated outside of the United States
- A credential evaluation from a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) member is required.
NACES- Note: Many students use Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc, World Education Services, Inc., SpanTran: The Evaluation Company (all found in the NACES link).

If submitting a detailed credential evaluation, official transcripts or mark sheets are not required at the time of application, but official final transcripts will be needed if the degree is pending. Photocopies are not accepted.
Key points:
- If you use, World Education Services (WES), ensure that evaluations are sent to the correct campus address, as delays are common.
- The evaluation must include a detailed list of completed courses, grades, and an overall cumulative evaluation.
- If you haven't earned a degree yet, the evaluation should indicate the U.S. equivalency of your anticipated degree.
- Evaluations must be sent directly from the service provider; photocopies are not accepted.
Standardized Tests
Find the required standardized tests for each academic program on their respective degree program web pages.
English Proficiency:
- International students must demonstrate English proficiency with TOEFL or IELTS Academic results.
- A minimum TOEFL ibt score of 61 or an IELTS score of 5.5 is required, though most programs require higher scores.
- Applicants from countries where English is the sole official language of instruction (e.g., Australia, Canada-except Quebec, UK, Nigeria etc.) typically do not need to submit TOEFL scores.
Graduate Record Examination (GRE):
- The GRE (Graduate Record Examination) may be required for some programs.

All test scores must be submitted directly by the testing agency. The Educational Testing Service (ETS) code for Minnesota State Mankato is 6677. Photocopies of test scores are not accepted.
