International First-Year Student Admission Requirements

First-Year International Student Requirements

  • Must provide proof of completion of secondary education (generally 12 years).
  • Cumulative academic results must be equivalent to or greater than U.S. 3.0 GPA grading system.
  • Meet one of the minimum standards for English Proficiency following the chart below.

 

English Language Proficiency Scores

Test Score
TOEFL iBT (internet-based test) 61 or better
IELTS academic test 5.5 or better
Duolingo English Test 95 or better
Pearson Test of English (PTE) 47 or better
Intensive English Program (IEP) at Minnesota State University, Mankato B+ average or better and at least a B in each course
English Language School (ELS) in the United States Completion of Level 112
SAT Critical Reading  400 or higher
SAT Reading 22 or higher
ACT English 18 or higher

Students transferring from a U.S. college or university can meet the English proficiency requirement by completing one semester of Freshman English Composition I with a grade of C or better. If transferring from a school on the quarter system, both Freshman Composition I and II must be completed with a grade of C or better.

The above requirements are for general university admission. Please note that the Aviation-Professional Flight and Nursing majors currently require higher English language proficiency scores.

Gambian High School Grading Scales

West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)

First-year applicants will be admitted if they graduated with WASSCE results of B3 (Good) or better.

West African Examination Council (WAEC)

First-year applicants will be admitted if they graduated with WAEC results of Grade 3 (Good) or better.

Indian High School Grading Scales

First-year applicants will be admitted if they graduated with:

  • CBSE External Subjects Results of 61-70 (equivalent to Grade B2 or 7 points) or better; OR
  • CBSE Internal Subjects Results of 3.1-4.0 (4) or better

Indian Council for Indian School Certificate (CISCE)

First-year applicants will be admitted if they graduated with:

  • CISCE (Standard X) scores of 50-59% (Second Class) or better; or
  • CISCE (Standard X) with Subjects 3, 4, or 5 (Credit) or better;
  • or CISCE (Standard XII) scores of 50-59% (Second Class) or better; or
  • CISCE (Standard XII) with Subjects 3, 4, 5, or 6 (Credit) or better

Ivorian High School Grading Scales

National Curriculum Results

First-year applicants will be admitted if they graduated with national curriculum results of 12-13 (Assez Bien) or better.

Korean High School Grading Scales

National Curriculum Results

First-year applicants will be admitted if they graduated with national curriculum results of 80-90% (Wu) or better.
