"It is well known that microaggressions—or commonplace behaviors or actions that insult and exclude people based on their marginalized identity or identities--can cause significant harm to an individual’s emotional and physical well-being. In higher education environments, microaggressions occur everywhere—in the classroom, in the residence halls, on the campus quad, in the student union, and so on. Such microaggressions create a hostile campus climate for everyone with marginalized identities—from students to staff, faculty, and visitors.

The overarching goal for this session is for participants to understand the strength in promoting and fostering a community that supports victims of microaggressions while offering strategies to reduce and dismantle microaggressions. Secondary goals include conveying the steps to create such a program including identifying unique challenges and corresponding solutions with the goal of racial and social justice. In turn, this can have a positive impact on campus to promote a more inclusive and welcoming campus climate for the entire campus community through the reduction of microaggressions."
