Transfer Student Admissions
Transferring schools can feel overwhelming, but it’s easier than you probably think, and we are here to help! Read through the process outlined below, and contact us if you have any questions.
TRANSFERRING
Getting Started
Your first step is to apply for admission to the University.
Transfer students use the same application as high school students; however, admission decisions are made based on our transfer admission requirements.
Application documents
You will need to have official transcripts from all institutions you’ve attended sent to Minnesota State Mankato. To do this, you will need to contact the institution(s) and request an official transcript. Many schools have an online request form through their website. We can access transcript(s) from any MinnState schools you may have attended, so you don’t need to send those.
If you have fewer than 24 completed credits, you will also need to send a final high school transcript. Your high school transcript does not need to be official, but it does need to contain grades 9-12 and your graduation date. You will need to contact your high school if you do not have a copy of your final high school transcript. If you graduated from high school more than 3 years prior to your application date, you can provide a diploma or other proof of high school graduation instead.
To submit transcripts:
You can have transcripts sent electronically, emailed to admissions@mnsu.edu, or they can be mailed directly to the address below:
Office of Admissions
Minnesota State University, Mankato
122 Taylor Center
Mankato, MN 56001
We may ask for additional information on a case-by-case basis. Once we have all your application materials, processing your file and making an admission decision will generally take 5-7 business days.
CREDIT EVALUATIONS
After you’ve been admitted, our Registration and Academic Records Office will evaluate your completed coursework, and you will receive an official report (DARS Report) of how your credits will transfer. That report will be available in your e-Services account 7-10 days after you are admitted. After that, you will log in to e-Services using your Star ID and password.
RETURNING STUDENTS
If you were formerly enrolled at Minnesota State Mankato as a regular student (post-high school), you do not need to apply again, even if you have taken courses elsewhere. Instead, please refer to the Returning Students information and contact the Registration Help Desk at 507-389-2252.
INTERNATIONAL TRANSFER STUDENTS
The above information is for domestic transfer students. For individuals that are international students with transfer work internationally or within the United States, please visit the international admissions page for more information.
