KMSU Radio Drama Planning Meeting
KMSU Radio Drama Troupe planning a spooky anthology for Halloween
August 14, 2024 |
MESSAGE FROM FOUNTAINEERS DIRECTOR SHELLEY PIERCE:
I have been chatting with several local authors who have written some original radio dramas. One is our very own James Mackey, and the other is a student here at MSU Mankato named Destyni Gessner. We will be doing both of those pieces, and a Judson Fountain Radio Drama as well if time allows. I hope to make it in the vein of a Tales Of The Crypt Keeper show, with a horror show host in between each piece to tie it all together.
This is an opportunity for a number of folks to get involved. I'd like to start recording in September, so we will have a meeting on August 29th for anyone that wants to get involved. I don't think auditions are necessary for this project, so it will be more of a show of hands for who wants to participate and then I'll assign roles.
The first piece is by James and it's called "I Was A Teenage Martian Zombie Caveman From Outer Space". This will be about 10 to 15 minutes long, and the cast consists of:
Narrator
Johnny Hamburg - an average American teenage boy, or is he?
Marie Frankfort - Johnny's best girl
Betty June Wallace - a screamer
Butch Effete - Marie's ex-boyfriend
Mr. or Ms. Bumpovsky - a former entertainer
Murray Fishman - a swamp creature
This is a comedy piece about the horrors of teenage love
The second piece by Destyni is called "Calyptra". This will be about 30 minutes long, and the cast consists of:
Clancy Frederickson - retired homicide detective
Barbara Frederickson - Clancy's wife
Lila Alister - new neighbor
Morgan Alister - new neighbor and moth enthusiast
Detective Charlie Goggins - head of police
Wayne Kleiner - local young man
This is a thriller about unsolved murders, suspicious new neighbors, and moth man!
The third piece, if we have time will be a Judson Fountain radio drama, for whom the Fountaineers KMSU Radio Drama Troupe was named after. If we only have a little bit of time, we will do Garbage Can From Thailand. If we have enough time we will do The Old Woman Of Haunted House.
There will also be a part for the NARRATOR for the "Crypt Keeper" type host.
Each piece has a smaller cast so we will be able to have everyone in the room, which definitely makes things move along quicker. We'll chat about how things will proceed at the meeting on the 29th. This will air on KMSU and on the Minnesota Music Channel.
I will be making an event page with all of this information as well - if anyone has any questions or can't make it to the 29th meeting please don't hesitate to reach out to me.
Regarding time commitments, I think this will be a quick production - in fact I think it will involve only one recording session for the Judson Fountain and James's dramas, and two recording sessions for Destyni's.
I am very excited to be highlighting local original writing, and I know that this is going to be a really fun project. Now that Santa Claus Conquers The Martians is over I can't wait to jump back in again! Thanks Fountaineers!
