Required Notice of Student Registration Form

The Notice of Student Registration Form, also called the MDE form, is required for all traditional PSEO students each semester they plan to enroll in courses. We use this form to remove registration holds for students planning to enroll in courses. Students can’t register until this form is submitted.

State law requires that students inform their school district by May 30th if they have an interest in registering for PSEO in the upcoming year. This doesn't mean the form needs to be submitted to Minnesota State Mankato by May 30th.

Suggested NOSR Submission Deadlines:

  • Fall semester: May 31st
  • Spring semester: December 1st

Completion instructions:

  • Students complete part one
  • High school counselors complete part two
  • The university will complete part three

FERPA Data Release Form (PSEO Specific)

PSEO and Concurrent Enrollment students are Minnesota State Mankato students and must provide authorization to release private information (registration, grades, financial aid, etc.). The PSEO Office has developed a form that will allow our office to provide information to high school counselors, instructors, family, and guardians. This form is used strictly during a student’s PSEO experience and expires immediately after high school graduation.

Requesting Official Transcripts

Official transcripts can be requested through the Academic Records and Registration Office. Students must request official transcripts for their PSEO courses to be transferred to some institutions. The "Transferring Credits" section below provides instructions for navigating this process.

PSEO Admission Requirements

When should I apply for PSEO?

Students planning on taking fall classes should plan to apply in April – May, prior to summer vacation. Students planning on taking spring classes should plan to apply in November – December, prior to winter break. Students are encouraged to apply early because the Admissions Department at Minnesota State University, Mankato will receive hundreds of applications in a short time period. It’s important that adequate time is given to review and process applications. Late applications are not guaranteed to be reviewed.

I took Minnesota State University classes last year, do I need to reapply?

Students who have previously enrolled for PSEO at Minnesota State Mankato will not need to reapply. For example, a student who enrolled in English 101 spring semester will not need to reapply to the university fall semester. The application is required for students who have not enrolled or been admitted to the university previously.

If you previously applied and were not admitted, or applied for the wrong semester, we will require you to reapply to campus.

You will be admitted to Minnesota State Mankato if you meet one of the following.

Find Out How to Register for Classes

PSEO students must complete orientation before they are able to register for their first semester PSEO courses. The PSEO Office monitors student's progress through orientation and will reach out to students when they are able to register. PSEO students, per Minnesota state statute, are required to register after full-time, tuition paying students. Specific registration days will be communicated to students leading up to orientation.

Registration can take place either on the Minnesota State Mankato campus or at a student's home. The PSEO Office will communicate with students on how registration will take place.

Registration Holds

Most of the time students should be able to register without any issues. There are some instances where students may run into registration errors. Below are the most common registration errors that a student will receive. If you receive a registration error please contact the PSEO Office immediately, most can be addressed quickly. You can find our contact information on the right side of this page.

PSEO Hold

The PSEO hold is normally placed on student accounts that have applied to become traditional PSEO students. For the most part, concurrent enrollment students should not experience this hold. If you are being prevented from registering because of the PSEO hold please contact the PSEO Office. In most cases we are able to override the hold immediately and allow you to register.

If you're trying to contact after normal business hours, please email pseo@mnsu.edu.

Admissions Hold

Similar to the PSEO hold, this should not be a hold that most students encounter. The Admissions Hold is placed on students account when they are admitted but is activated on 4/1 of your graduation year.

You may experience this hold if you are registering for a course that starts in the fourth quarter or if there was an error when the hold was placed on your account.

Contact the PSEO Office immediately, we can override the hold quickly to allow you to register.

Orientation Hold

The orientation hold is pretty common. Anyone that has been admitted to Minnesota State Mankato as a first year student will have this hold placed on their account. The PSEO Office regularly checks for students that might have this hold on their account. Depending on when your first year application is accepted by Admissions, we may miss overriding this hold.

Please note that this hold does not pertain to any orientation you may have completed through the PSEO Office.

If you encounter this hold, please contact the PSEO Office immediately. We can override the hold and allow you to register quickly.

Academic Warning

PSEO students are held to the same academic standards that tuition paying students are. All students enrolled at Minnesota State Mankato are required to meet the Academic Standing Policy.

Currently, PSEO students are given one semester to meet these standards. If a PSEO student falls below the completion rate (66.67%) OR minimum GPA (1.7) they will be placed on Academic Warning and not allowed to enroll in PSEO, including concurrent enrollment, courses with Minnesota State Mankato.

We have adapted the PSEO policy to help ensure students remain in good academic standing with other institutions. If after two semesters a student does not meet both standards they will be suspended from campus. Academic suspension appears on a student's university transcript. Since students will not be eligible to enroll after one semester of not meeting standards, PSEO students are not able to be suspended from campus.

If you see this hold on your account you will not be eligible to enroll in courses. If you beleive this hold was placed by mistake, please contact the PSEO Office.

Cohort Code

This is a very common registration error that PSEO students receive. Every concurrent enrollment course is assigned to a specific cohort, typically, the high school that you are part of. This assures that only students at your high school are eligible to enroll.

If you receive this registration error please check to see if you've been admitted to campus. You can check your admission status by reaching out to your high school counselor or course instructor. You can also check your admission status by logging into our eApplication. Once you've been admitted you will be added to your cohort and should be able to register for your course(s).

Sometimes students are accidentaly added to the wrong cohort. You will know this happens if you receive an error message that you're part of a different cohort than your high school. For example, if you're a student at St. James High School but you have been added to the Eagan High School cohort.

If you've been added to the wrong cohort, please contact the PSEO Office immediately. We can make the change quickly and allow you to register.

Registration Tips

  • If you would like to register for an English or Math course, and do not have a placement exam on file, please email pseo@mnsu.edu with the course you'd like to register for. You can find placement requirements on the Testing Center website.
  • Talk with your high school guidance counselor to understand any high school graduation requirements you have.
  • Transition into university courses. PSEO students can struggle with the increased rigor of university courses. Students can find success when they register for 1-3 courses their first semester and increase credits in future semesters.
  • Register for courses that will help you save time and money once you become a full-time tuition paying student.
  • What is your preferred schedule? Do you work in the afternoon? Are you in high school activities? Are you not a morning person? University courses can be very flexible in the times they are offered. Register for courses that fit your schedule as much as you can.
  • If you have taken courses through other institutions, how will they transfer to Minnesota State Mankato? You can answer that question by visiting www.transferology.com.
  • Check out the course schedule at E-Services.

Learn How to Transfer PSEO Credits to Other Colleges and Universities

We strive to serve the needs of all students and hope your PSEO experience has been positive. You work to save money and graduate faster through PSEO, and continuing your education at Minnesota State Mankato will ensure all your work is counted, since no transferring is required

It's important to note that every institution controls how credits transfer to them. Here are some tips to help with the transfer process:

  • Be purposeful with the courses you do register for; don't just register for courses because they are available. A PSEO Office staff member can help identify appropriate courses if you know what you intend to major in.
  • Keep copies of your course syllabi, this will help your new institution better understand what is taught in the course and how equivalent it is to their course.
  • Utilize Transferology.com prior to registering for courses. Transferology.com is a site that helps students answer the question of how credits may transfer to different institutions.

To learn more about how to use Transferology, please refer to our User Guide.

Requesting Official Transcripts

Are you preparing to enroll at another institution? You will need to have official university transcripts in order for your credits to transfer. Official transcripts can be requested at the Registrar's Office.

If you are planning on enrolling at another MinnState institution you will need to inform the school you're enrolling at that you have completed courses with us and they will be able to pull your transcripts free of charge.

How Do I Transfer My Credits?

Students are responsible for having their PSEO and concurrent enrollment credits transferred to other institutions. Students should request to have official transcripts sent. If you are attending another school within the MinnState system you will not have to request your transcript, just let that school know you have a record with Minnesota State Mankato. The University of Minnesota system is NOT part of MinnState and students will need to request to have their official transcripts sent for evaluation.

The process can be completed online through our Registrar's Office site or by visiting Transcripts and Verifications.

If you're wondering how your credits will transfer to another institution or, how courses from another school will transfer to Minnesota State University, we recommend using www.transferology.com. Here you can creat a free account and learn how credits will transfer. Students can use this site to make informed decisions on courses to register for.

Not every institution is listed on Transferology. If you don't see one of the schools you're interested in enrolling in, please contact that school directly.

Advising

Create an academic plan to get the most out of your courses!

Did you know that PSEO students have designated staff that can help them answer their common questions and plan purposeful and meaningful courses?

A typical appointment may cover:

  • Courses required to meet general education requirements
  • Courses required for your intended major
  • If you're unsure of what you'd like to major in, your advisor will help you narrow your choices down
  • Transferring credits

PSEO staff can't answer questions on which courses meet your high school graduation requirements. You must meet with your high school counselor to help find university courses that meet your high school's graduation requirements before meeting your PSEO advisor. We've developed an Advising Form to help guide that conversation.

Print the Advising Form

Advising is required for students to register for courses after their first semester and encouraged before their first semester.
