Live Comedy With D.J. Demers
Tuesday, October 15, 2019
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Ostrander Auditorium
Here to unite the hearing and Deaf community, award-winning stand-up comedian, D.J. Demers, will be performing his comedy on the Minnesota State University, Mankato, campus Tuesday, October 15.
Demers grew up in Canada and was diagnosed with hearing loss when he was a child. His comedy act introduces many of the lifestyle modifications those in the hard of hearing community experience through comedy. Demers is well-known for his appearances on “America’s Got Talent,” and the late-night talk show “Conan.”
This event is free for students and will begin at 7 p.m. in Ostrander Auditorium. Demer’s comedy act will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. and then an educational panel on the Deaf community will follow from 8 to 9 p.m. Educational Entertainment Chair Julie Tonsager says, “This event will give an entertaining, yet educational, night of laughs, smiles and knowledgeable information about the Deaf community.”
The Student Events Team has had comedians come in the past such as Daniel Franzese from “Mean Girls.” Since the Franzese event had a successful turnout, the Student Events Team decided to bring another comedian to campus. This time it will bring comedy to the Maverick community while also educating students on what it’s like to be an individual that is hard of hearing.
