Emotional Support Animals - Residential Life

An Emotional Support Animal (ESA) is an animal that provides comfort to an individual with a disability in their living environment and is a housing accommodation authorized by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the federal Fair Housing Act.

Applications for an ESA must be approved through Accessibility Resources and Residential Life prior to arrival on campus.

To request Housing Accommodations that include an Emotional Support Animal, you can either:

  • Log into MavAccess with your StarID and complete the New Student Application. We will then contact you to schedule a meeting with our staff; or,
  • Schedule an intake meeting with staff in Accessibility Resources by calling 507-389-2825, emailing ar@mnsu.edu, or stopping by Accessibility Resources in Memorial Library 132.

Please note: You may be asked to provide documentation of your disability to help determine eligibility for accommodations. If you do not have documentation, we can help with this at the initial meeting. To assist in the process, you may use the following templated forms:
