Bookstore Charges
The University allows enrolled students who are eligible to charge textbooks and supplies purchased from the Maverick Shop @ Minnesota State Mankato for a limited time at the start of each semester. Charge amount is based on the actual cost of textbooks and supplies purchased for enrolled courses, up to a maximum of $600 per term.
Eligibility
Eligible students receive an e-mail notification just prior to the textbook charge period, based on meeting one of the following sets of requirements:
- Financial Aid - students with a financial aid application in process with the University prior to the start of the semester, enrolled in at least six Minnesota State Mankato credits and no past due account balance holds.
- Payment Plan - students enrolled in a Nelnet/FACTS payment plan, enrolled in at least one credit and no past due account balance hold. More information on Nelnet/FACTS payment plan.
- Veterans of military service - Veteran students eligible for military benefits not directly billed under another program, enrolled in at least one credit and no past due account balance hold. If more than $600 is needed for the semester’s textbook/supplies purchases, the student may contact Trista Knoll, Accounts Receivable Director, to request an increase to the charge limit.

Special Request Option
Students with access to a 529 College Savings Plan for qualified education expenses may request approval to charge through this program on an individual basis. Contact Accounts Receivable Director Trista Knoll to coordinate a request. Approval is limited to only the upcoming semester and requires documentation to verify availability of funds sufficient to cover full cost of textbooks as well as other amounts billed for the semester such as tuition, fees and residence hall charges. Future requests are allowed and will require updated documentation of available plan funds.
Charge Period
Students may order textbooks online from the Maverick Shop @ Minnesota State Mankato through a link in the Class Schedule page on e-services. Online orders charged through this program may be picked up beginning the Wednesday prior to the first day of classes, through the fourth day of the term.
Eligible students may charge their fall or spring semester textbook/supply purchases in-person at the Maverick Shop Bookstore @ Minnesota State Mankato beginning three weeks prior to the first day of classes, through the fourth day of the term. For summer term, in-store purchases may be charged beginning two weeks prior to the first day of classes, through the fourth day of the term. Student Account Charges
An accounts receivable charge is updated to the student’s university account for the actual cost of textbooks and supplies purchased at the Maverick Shop @ Minnesota State Mankato under this program. Charges are updated just prior to the processing of financial aid each term to facilitate automatic payoff. Changes in student account charges and financial aid awards resulting from registration changes that occur after textbook charge amount is determined may impact the automatic payoff of these charges.
It remains the student’s responsibility to ensure his/her account with the university is paid. Any unpaid balances are subject to late fees and other collection procedures.
