Political Activities
Statement
Recognized Student Organizations, University Departments, and the General Public may reserve space for political activities by contacting University Scheduling and Conference Services (CSU 219). Political activities are defined as those activities which have as their purpose the endorsement, support, or advancement of a politically affiliated cause, organization, party, or candidate.
Policy Overview
The following guidelines shall apply to political activities:
- Political activities must allow free flow of traffic, be open to the public, and occur without restrictions (no admission fees or donations solicited).
- Political activity sponsors and participants are expected to be courteous of others by monitoring their noise level and responding promptly when asked to reduce noise levels (the exercise of free speech should not be disruptive to classes or administrative offices). Amplification devices are prohibited.
- No signage or activity by any member of the political activity shall extend beyond the area of the space reserved.
- The distribution of political paraphernalia is prohibited beyond the area of the space reserved.
Event Room Usage
Recognized Student Organizations, University Departments, and the General Public wishing to host candidates or discussions of political issues appearing on ballots may request event meeting space by contacting University Scheduling and Conference Services (CSU 219). Standard charges apply if applicable.
Lobby Space Usage
Recognized Student Organizations, University Departments, and the General Public may request the use of lobby space for political activities by contacting University Scheduling and Conference Services (CSU 219). Spaces are allowed on a first-come, first-use basis. Standard charges apply if applicable.
Advertising and Promotional Materials
Recognized Student Organizations, University Departments, and the General Public may promote a confirmed scheduled event within the Centennial Student Union. Methods are described in the Centennial Student Union “Advertising and Promotions” policy.
Rationale
The Centennial Student Union encourages political awareness among members of the campus community by recognizing the educational and civic merits or participation.
