Short-Term Individual Counseling
The Counseling Center applies a short-term approach to counseling services. The goals of this model are to facilitate adjustment to college and other life transitions, healthy functioning, and symptom relief.
You may be referred for short-term individual counseling during your Screening Appointment, if appropriate. You will then be scheduled as soon as possible for an Initial Consultation with an available counselor. Service demand varies throughout the academic year; there may be a short wait for individual counseling.
Since mental health and wellness concerns are unique to each person, recommendations for services and length of treatment will vary. Personal goals are set by you and your counselor, and through ongoing assessment of progress toward goals. While enrolled students may attend a maximum of 10 individual sessions per academic year, most individual problems are typically addressed within 2-6 sessions.
