What I Like about Being a Maverick:
As a new professional, MSU, Mankato definitely spoils you with a welcoming environment, good people, and an understanding atmosphere. Being able to feel safe and secure in expressing my identities as well, and feel supported in doing so makes me love the community even more. Working with the folx that I do, and getting to learn more about our residents by meeting them where they are has been a challenge I have been more than willing to leap to. Coming to work in the morning is never the challenge because I can honestly say I love what I do!
Professional Development/Involvement/Interests:
Throughout my educational career I became invested in working with matters concerning diversity, equity, and inclusivity. During my first two years of graduate school, I developed my understanding of concepts surrounding College Student Development and Critical perspectives within the field of education. I have brought that forward with my student staff as well, and we build that into our conversations each week. Beyond that I am actively looking for ways to bridge academic theory with practical applications so that we can better support our students in more nuanced ways!
Hobbies:
In my free time, you will probably find me playing some board games with friends, reading a good book, traveling when the wallet isn't feeling too light, or just enjoying some nice quiet time playing video games or watching tv.
