Housing Accommodations

Housing accommodations may be needed for students who feel that:

  • living in a traditional setting may not work,
  • they will need something additional in that setting, or
  • for students who need accessible rooms.

Requesting an Accommodation

Residential Life works in partnership with Accessibility Resources to provide housing accommodations for students with disabilities. Each student's need are determined on a case-by-case basis.

The Accommodation Process

For priority consideration, requests based on medical need must be received by:

  • March 1 for housing beginning Fall Semester.
  • November 1 for housing beginning Spring/Summer Semester.

STEP 1: Apply for Housing

STEP 2: Login to MavAccess with your StarID and complete the New Student Application. Accessibility Resources will then contact you to schedule a meeting with a staff member.

OR schedule a meeting with Accessibility Resources by calling (507) 389-2825, emailing ar@mnsu.edu or stopping by Memorial Library 132.

Please note: You may be asked to provide documentation of your disability to help determine eligibility for accommodations. If you already have documentation, you can upload it to MavAccess, email it to ar@mnsu.edu, have your provider fax it to 507-389-1199, or bring it with you to your scheduled meeting. Having information from your health provider on this templated form would be most useful:

Emotional Support Animals

An Emotional Support Animal (ESA) is an animal that provides comfort to an individual with a disability in their living environment and is a housing accommodation authorized by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the federal Fair Housing Act.

Applications for an ESA must be approved through Accessibility Resources and Residential Life prior to arrival on campus.

Please note: You may be asked to provide documentation of your disability to help determine eligibility for accommodations. If you do not have documentation, Accessibility Resources will help with this at the initial meeting. To assist in the process, you may use the following templated forms:
