Wait List
For New and Returning Students
Due to outstanding academic programs and modern residence hall facilities, demand remains high for new and returning students to be a part of the residence halls at Minnesota State Mankato.
Being on the wait list is not a guarantee of a room. Students on the wait list will be offered the opportunity to apply for housing as space becomes available. Students will be contacted via MavMAIL and will have 2 business days to complete an application, sign their housing contract, and pay their prepayment.
We recommend that students who join the wait list also search for off-campus housing while awaiting a housing assignment. Visit Off-Campus Housing for additional information about off-campus housing opportunities and resources (there are more off-campus options, this is just one place to start).
- Assignments through the wait list process will be limited. High demand room types such as single rooms and semi-suites are not likely to be available. We cannot predict housing availability within certain room types.
HOW A STUDENT CAN SIGN UP FOR THE WAIT LIST:
- Log in to the Housing & Dining Portal.
- Once logged in, click Housing Application to add your name to the wait list.
- Once your wait list form is complete, you are automatically added according to your submission timestamp.
PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING:
- The wait list is not learning community, room type, or location-specific.
- The wait list is not for students that currently have a completed housing application. A completed housing application means you have submitted an application, signed your housing contract, & paid the housing prepayment. If you have a complete and active housing application, you will have a space in campus housing.
- All wait list correspondence will be sent to your MavMAIL email account. Be sure to check your email often for updates.
- There is no cost to sign up for the wait list.
- If you sign up for the wait list and would like to be removed, log in to the Housing & Dining Portal, click on the “Housing Wait List Status” link in the portal menu, then click "Remove Me".
- If you apply for housing after July 1 and cancel, your prepayment is not refundable.
OFFER SCHEDULE
Offers to active wait list applications are based on cancellations and availability, which makes it difficult to set an exact day when offers will be made.
All offer emails are sent to the applicant's MavMAIL email account with details on how to reserve a space. Applicants will have 2 business days to complete all available steps of the housing application.

Can I sign up for a specific room type?
No. If you are offered the opportunity to apply for housing, your room assignment will be driven by availability. If you are seeking something specific (ex: a single room), we recommend exploring off-campus availability.
How likely is it that I will be able to live on-campus?
Offers to apply for housing are based on cancellations and availability, which makes it difficult to predict if/when you will receive an offer.
