Staying for Winter Break
For residents who have registered to stay December 13 - January 9.
Access to Residence Communities
During Winter Break, all exterior entrances are locked so carry your MavCARD and room key with you at all times. The residence communities lock at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 13 and unlock at 8 a.m. on Friday, January 10. When you register for Winter Break Housing, your MavCARD will be activated and allow you access to doors that you typically have access to.
Food Service
Breakfast and lunch are the only meals served on Friday, December 13 in the University Dining Center (the dining center closes at 1:30 p.m.) The first meal of Spring Semester is lunch on Friday, January 10, 2025.
Retail dining in the CSU will operate limited hours during the break.
Parking
Residents who have registered to stay for winter break are allowed to have their vehicles parked in Lot 14 stripe and Lot 16 light green for overnight parking needs. Vehicles parked overnight in all other lots will be subject to ticketing, including Lot 1, 2, and 20a Dark Green.
Residents are to be aware of any snow removal postings for their lots. Security will make a reasonable effort to contact registered vehicle owners, but any vehicle left in a lot that is identified for snow removal will be towed at the owner's expense.
Vehicles deemed abandoned after 7 days may be ticketed/towed from the campus at the owner's expense.
Staff
Residential Life Staff will be on duty in the residence communities during Winter Break. A Hall Director will be on duty at all times and CAs will be on duty from 4:30 p.m. to 8 a.m. daily. Names and phone numbers of duty staff will be posted in each community.
Security will provide an escort for anyone who wishes to have one. To contact University Security, call 507-389-2111.
Front Desk Service
Front Desks will be open from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. daily except for December 24, 25, and 31. You may pick up mail, packages, check out equipment, etc. while the desk is open.
Mail Service
Crawford, McElroy, Preska and Julia Sears
Mail is delivered to residents who have registered for Winter Break Housing. Mail will be put in your mailbox Monday-Friday on days when the Front Desk is open (there is no mail service on December 24, 25, 31, January 1, and the weekends).
Stadium Heights
Mail delivery at Stadium Heights will follow the U.S. Postal Service schedule.
Guests
Friday, December 13 through Thursday, January 9
A guest is considered a person who is not a resident (residents who have not paid for break housing may NOT visit as guests).
You must escort your guest at all times in the residence communities. You are responsible for your guest and their actions.
Validated parking is not required December 13 through 6 a.m. on January 13. Guests may park in Lot 14 stripe or 16 light green stalls. Stadium Heights residents should contact the Property Owner's Office for information about guest parking at Stadium Heights over the break.
Health Services
Student Health Services Medical Clinic and Pharmacy will be open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the following dates over Winter Break:
- Tuesday, December 17
- Thursday, December 19
- Thursday, January 2
- Tuesday, January 7
- Thursday, January 9
If you need to be seen at an urgent care clinic when Student Health Services is not open, please find information here for providers off-campus.
Bus Service
Campus bus service will not operate after the residence halls close on December 13. It will resume on Monday, January 13. Campus bus service includes Campus Express and the Stomper Express.
There is no bus service to Stadium Heights over Winter Break.
All Mankato Transit System routes (including Routes 1, 7, 8, 10, 11, 14, & 15 which serve MSU) will continue to operate on their regular schedule during Winter Break with the exception of December 25 and January 1, when there will be no bus service due to the holidays.
